“If Villar becomes president, how will this arrangement affect the ongoing investigation of the Maguindanao massacre? Does this mean the victims will be deprived of justice?”
Liberal Party senatorial bet Dr. Martin Bautista yesterday said it is not surprising that the Ampatuans of Maguindanao are supporting NP bet Manny Villar, pointing out the warlord clan’s lawyer is a brother-in-law of NP spokesperson Gilbert Remulla.
“Sen. Villar’s skill at deal-making has been shown by his alliances with key Arroyo loyalists, and the radical left. The fact that Ampatuan lawyer Sigfrid Fortun is a brother-in-law of the Remulla brothers may have firmed up the arrangement between the clan and the NP,” he said.
Bautista noted that detained Mayor Andal Ampatuan, Jr. was very open about the clan’s preference for Sen. Villar by wearing campaign ballers of the NP standard bearer and Gilbert Remulla, who is running for a senate seat, during his transfer Thursday from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to Camp Bagong Diwa, in Bicutan, Taguig.
The Balikbayan doctor said Villar should disclose whatever deal he has struck with the Ampatuans in exchange for their backing, not only in Maguindanao, but also in other areas of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
“If Villar becomes president, how will this arrangement affect the ongoing investigation of the Maguindanao massacre? Does this mean the victims will be deprived of justice?” Bautista asked.
A regional trial court has ordered the detained Ampatuans, including former Governor Andal Ampatuan, Sr., in General Santos and Davao City to be transferred to Manila.
“Why Sen. Villar and not Gibo Teodoro? One shudders to think what the unholy Villarroyo-Ampatuan alliance will do to win victory on May 10. The people must remain vigilant and be ready to oppose any attempt to thwart their will on Election Day,” he said.
